Democracy 2.0 is a recently founded, not for profit organisation. Its purpose is to explore and develop new ideas for engaging the public in political solutions through the use of the Internet.
Our first project is the Virtual Parliament (currently in beta phase), www.virtualparliament.org.uk
It is our belief that people have the potential to be inspirational and innovative in generating sound, workable ideas, from local issues to national government policy and even international concerns. There is a vast, untapped pool of resource throughout the country that can add great value to the quality of political decisions.
There are currently insufficient means of aggregating the wisdom of crowds, or enabling debate to modify and improve initial ideas.
Democracy 2.0, therefore, seeks to harness this wisdom, using the Internet, so that there are quality solutions for collecting, collating and debating ideas. Most importantly, these solutions will enable communities to reach real decisions, based on the collective wisdom of the participants.
We would love to hear from any individuals or groups who are interested in this area, and would also be interested in joining an existing project (we don’t want to re-invent the wheel), or collaborating in a new one.
